The last vestiges of snow are finally melting on the mountain, just a few small patches left on Upper Antelope, Fall Line, Paradise and shady spots in the upper mountain woods.  The mountain is greening up for sure and some of the wild flowers are beginning to bloom. Check out some recent pics to see how the mountain looks these days. The trails are finally drying out and hiking season is in full swing. Everyone is welcome to come on up and enjoy the mountain in the off-season. You can walk up from the bottom or access it via the Long Trail from the top of the Appalachian Gap. suggests staying off the Long Trail when it is muddy in the spring to prevent irreversible erosion and damage to the trail and surrounding vegetation. This time of year it is great to just walk up the "work road" from the base area. It leads hikers up the mountain along a relatively gentle climb past a gorgeous waterfall, the Birdcage Lodge, up to the Kent Thomas Nature Center, and then depending upon your mood you can go to the top of the Sunnyside Double, to Mid-Station on the Single or to the summit of Gen. Stark Mountain and the Stark’s Nest.   There is so much to do here in the Mad River Valley  during the summer.  Hiking, swimming, biking, golf, tennis, and just plain old relaxing are the Valley’s forte.  If you haven’t spent time here during the warmer months we encourage you to come check it out for yourself.

Volunteer Work Days: One of the key advantages of Mad River Glen's cooperative ownership structure is our ability to harness the energy of our Co-op Shareholders. Mad River Glen has enjoyed a long and storied history of official and unofficial work efforts  aimed at preserving, protecting, and enhancing our collective experiences on Gen. Stark Mtn. We ask you to get involved with your Co-op and help to perpetuate this fine tradition.  There is a serious amount of work to be accomplished and the mountain staff, management, and the Coop Board sincerely hope to make this volunteer effort a huge success.
