Update January 16, 2006
<http://www.madriverglen.com/email.tmp/ss_bord_top.jpg>
Greetings from Blustery Mad River Glen,
I wish I had better things to report about the ski conditions, but what can
I say. We did received 4"-8" of windblown snow on Gen. Stark's Mountain
Saturday night and into Sunday. Unfortunately, we are recovering from the
rain and unseasonable temps from the end of last week. Today we anticipate
skiing on about 30% of our terrain off of the Sunnyside Double, the Practice
Slope and Callie's Corner. Skiers will have the opportunity to take on
legendary trails like Fox, Vixen and Porcupine with primarily a machine
groomed surface along with pockets of windblown powder. Please keep in mind
that we will be unable to open too much more terrain without significant
snowfall so let's all keep thinking cold and snowy thoughts. We have resumed
snow making operations (contrary to popular myth, we do in fact make some
snow!) and both guns are blazing. Due to the limited terrain we will be
offering reduced price skiing until conditions improve. Until further notice
lift tickets will cost $35 for adults and $22 for Jr's/Sr's. Stay tuned and
PLEASE.....
THINK SNOW!!!!

Heart of a Winter Storm" Nothing is more thrilling to a snow-lover
than to watch a snowstorm swallow up the distant hills, and then immerse the
landscape in a dizzying sweep of dancing snowflakes. And nothing is more
disappointing when snowstorm becomes an anemic flurry. Just what makes a
winter storm tick? Mark Breen, meteorologist from the Fairbanks Museum and
Planetarium and host of VPR's Eye on the Sky, will take a very close
examination of the inner workings of winter storms, including how these
storms behave as they make their rounds across the Green Mountains. By
revealing their wide-ranging personalities, Breen hopes to expand our
understanding of why forecasting winter storms is such a challenge.
